Bar

A hotel bar near the station is what saves an evening when the last train gets in after the restaurants have shut: you drop the case, walk downstairs and still get a drink. This page lists 512 hotels with a bar or lounge across 42 destinations, 1,122,431 reviews between them; those with a guest score average 8.4 out of 10. Nearly one hotel in two on this site has a bar, so the real question is not whether there is one but which is worth staying for. Around London King's Cross, the bar becomes the reason to stay. The St. Pancras London, Autograph Collection, built into the Gothic front of St Pancras next door, runs Booking Office 1869 in the old ticket hall: a 22-metre bar under eight-metre palm trees, redesigned by Hugo Toro and reopened in late 2021. Across Euston Road, The Standard, London has Decimo on the 10th floor, reached by its red lift, and a rooftop that looks at the St Pancras clock tower. A late arrival who wants a real cocktail bar is who I would send here. For sheer choice, Berlin Hauptbahnhof leads with 31 hotels with a bar, followed by London Waterloo with 29. The Hoxton, Southwark and Park Plaza London Westminster Bridge, both rated 9, stay on the station's side of the Thames. The Steam Engine is the odd one: a pub with dorm rooms on Cosser Street, roughly a 13-minute walk south of Waterloo station and about 250 metres from Lambeth North Underground. I would not book it for quiet, because the bar is the ground floor of a pub hostel. The best averages among European stations belong to Warsaw Central, 8.9 over 12 hotels, and Paris Gare Montparnasse, 8.9 over 14. Where the bar alone should not decide your booking is New York Penn Station: 26 hotels have one, but they average 8.2, and I would choose there by the walk to the platforms first. The King's Cross list as a whole averages 8.1, so pick by hotel, not by postcode. Whatever the city, check the bar's last order, since it can close well before the last train arrives.
